Listing of the Day
Location: Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Price: C$10.99 million (US$8.28 million)
This ultra-modern house is perched above the scenic shores of Okanagan Lake in the Canadian province of British Columbia, in the heart of Okanagan Valley wine country.
“It’s the most famous wine region in Canada,” listing agent Richard Deacon said, akin to Napa Valley and Sonoma in California.
Okanagan Valley “has really come into its own in the last 20 years,” he said, and in the last five years has begun to produce some award-winning wines.

Custom designed and built in 2014, the 11,496-square-foot house “is this very cool mixture of a modern house that sits among natural scenery,” Mr. Deacon said. “It’s a very large house, but it doesn’t feel that way inside.”
“Before you even come into the house—from the exterior perimeter—you’re really wowed, taken aback by how visual the architecture and design is,” he said. “It has that extra something that really sets it apart.”
Exterior design details include landscaped terraces and “knife-edge roof lines that serve as a striking visual element and also minimize the harsh sun we get in the summer,” Mr. Deacon said.
Interior architectural details include a dramatic and quite large foyer, floating walls, splashes of high-end stone, and a glass staircase with a sculptural rock and water feature.
The great room has vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the lake views.
“You face west, with sweeping views down the lake to the south,” Mr. Deacon said. “You’re directly positioned for sunsets.”

The master suite also has floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning lakeside and forest views as well as a large slab of black marble that divides the bathroom from the walk-in closet. It also has a staircase down to its own spa suite.
The kitchen has two islands and is on an elevated area of the main living/entertaining space.
The 11,496-square-foot house has five bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and two partial bathrooms. It sits on a 2.25-acre lot.
Amenities include an infinity pool and hot tub, a gym, two fire pits, an outdoor movie screen, spa/treatment spaces and a yoga/massage area with a separate entrance. There is also a private marina with a tram down to the water.

The house is in the Sheerwater neighborhood, a “private gated community developed by a local builder,” with about two-dozen estate-sized lots, Mr. Deacon said.
The property is about 10 minutes from the city center of Kelowna and the airport, he said.
“It’s 10 to 15 minutes to a half-dozen wineries,” he added.
“Kelowna was originally the fruit capital of Canada,” known for its cherry, peach and apple orchards, Mr. Deacon said.
Many of those orchards have now been converted to wineries, he said, with high-end restaurants and a vibrant culinary scene.
